New York’s State Senate has handed a bill in a 36-27 vote putting a two-year moratorium on proof-of-work (PoW) cryptocurrency mining with fossil fuels, the process used for mining bitcoin.

The moratorium positioned through New York states:

New packages might not be approved, nor will new lets in be issued “​​for an electrical producing facility that makes use of a carbon-based gasoline and that gives, in complete or partially, behind-the-meter electrical power fed on or used by cryptocurrency mining operations that use proof-of-work authentication how to validate blockchain transactions.”
